The students in grade 7 will be creating art based on the elements and principals of art, focusing on drawing from observation, using new media and art history. An exploration into Egyptian and early Roman art will occur in addition to self portraits and still life paintings.
Pop Art Sculptures
Students in 7th grade created large scale sculptures of everyday objects. They used cardboard, paper mache and paint.
Plein Air Paintings of the Buddhist Temple
On a beautiful warm day in March the students went outside to draw the Buddhist Temple located across the street. This was not always a Buddhist Temple it was originally a square cement building. Changes such as paint and moldings were added, the roof line was changed and columns were placed. Over the course of the fall and winter a Buddhist Temple began to appear.
Pattern grid portraits
Students drew themselves using either a mirror or their phone. Once completed squares were added using a ruler to make lines vertically and horizontally. A different patter was then added to each square. Students had to use values to attempt to create lights and darks in specific areas to add interest.
Clay Portrait Busts
Students created portraits of themselves using a mirror or phone in order to capture specific traits. Students then recreated their portraits in 3-D using clay. It was not as easy for some as it was for others but as you can see we have some very talented clay artists.
