We spent the last week finishing projects up for the flower show. Classes switch on February 1 and the students worked hard on numerous projects. Students were working on everything from anime of the 6 deadly sins to Picasso Portraits to Native American Totem Poles to Flower Headdresses to Botanical Illustrations. It was a whirlwind week and time was cut short due to the snow day last week. Students pulled together and everything was completed beautifully. National Park Designs in progress Picasso Portraits Botanical Illustrations and anime of seven deadly sins

With the approach of Jonas Blizzard of 2016 I assigned extra credit to the students. Build a snowman, 1 point for each foot tall and 3 more points for decorating and dressing it. I had a few try to draw the snowmen in class, but I said no you build it!
Well on Saturday the first email arrived and then there were more and more. The students were building snowmen or at least trying. We came back to school on Wednesday and even more students were showing me pictures of their snowmen and ladies. The total over 20 snowmen were built. Here are some below with their creators. All of the students work was fabulous, many were even better than last years entries. It was very difficult to choose the students to represent Wilson. I wanted to enter all of the works. They were all creative, well executed and every student put forth their best effort! I am proud of all the work. However I had to narrow it down to send only 28 entries. They are below for you to view. Good Luck to the entries!
Happy New Year! Welcome backWe are back from hopefully a relaxing and fun winter break! It is a new year and that means new projects! As always we start off the new year year with a contest sponsored by the Heinz National Wildlife Refuge. A groundhog art contest. This contest is open to students both in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Students have been working on realistically drawing the groundhog and creatively portraying them in their natural habitat. Students have learned the hatching technique of drawing to simulate fur and the have had some excellent results so far. Examples of last years work can be seen here.
