The end of the year is always bittersweet. We are excited for summer but I hope that my students will continue to create and challenge themselves during the summer. Today I cleaned and closed up the classroom and it always looks so empty. A new fresh start in September!

Today I delivered the large sculptures to 440, our district building. I love my car yes they all fit, no I could not see out the back windows at all. In fact I couldn't see past the drivers seat. The looks on the faces of the people downtown as I was carrying in the pieces was priceless. The sculptures look great in their new location. The will be on display for the PAEA conference in October. The district building is located at 440 North Broad St. The artwork is on display during business hours all summer.
A huge thank you to our music teacher Ms. Surkin. We now have numerous canvas to paint on and frames to put our work in. I can't wait to use them next year. The students will paint them white first and then use them for their projects. Thank You!
One last fire of the kiln and the glazed pieces are removed. I do love the excitement of opening the kiln to see all the glaze colors so vibrant and shiny.
Congratulations to Jenny whose art work has been chosen for an art exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The exhibit, Dreams, will be on view from June 14 through August 7, 2016. This is very exciting and I can't wait to see the work on display!
Andy Goldsworthy is an environmental sculptor. He uses natural materials to create stunning arrangements. The 8th grade students watched a 5 minute video and then went outside to create in groups. They were all given limited materials they had to work from. Lucky for them the grass had just be mowed and the clippings added an extra material. They were also allowed to use anything they found in the campus park. Taking advantage of the beautiful weather and the campus park classes went outside to learn some perspective. Forced perspective is fun but not easy as the students leaned first hand. It requires an object close up and an object farther away. Aligning them so they appear to be in the same plane results in a little trick photography. These photos are not photoshopped. The students needed a steady hand and an imagination. You can see results both successful and non successful attempts. Our classroom is the featured classroom of the month on the Pennsylvania Art Education Association's blog. Check out all the wonderful things happening in our class this month.
